Weekly Weigh-In: Up Slightly
As of Saturday I’m up 2 lbs. It could have been worse, but thanks to lots of course corrections this week, I think I cut off a potential disaster.
Since I started my 21-Day Primal Challenge (more on that in a later post), I enjoyed a few items I rarely eat with greater frequency. I’m not sure why, as the challenge cautions against doing such things. I think I simply had a mental break.
Being diligent 24/7 ain’t easy folks!
So what are my guilty pleasures? Dark chocolate, sweet potatoes and fruit…oh my!
Dark chocolate. The higher the cacao percent, the better. I ended up buying Ghiradelli Intense Dark (86%) Midnight Reverie squares. They were on sale at the grocery store and in individual serving sizes. Perfect! My thought was the bag would last a couple of months. WRONG! Try less than a week. Clearly I have issues.
Sweet Potatoes — I love sweet potatoes and once a month I’ll enjoy a small one. Over the last 3 weeks I’ve enjoyed them 2-4 times a week. Oh and not just in potato form. Restaurant sweet potato fries are delicious, but frankly not very healthy.
Bing Cherries & Berries — I love cherries. It’s my favorite flavor and fruit. For the 21-Day Challenge, berries and pitted fruit are preferred over other fruits. They are insanely healthy. But again, the recommendation stresses moderation. Why? Sugar…specifically the fructose in fruit. Fruit once in a blue moon is good, but a few times a week is disaster for weight loss. Guess what I did.
So this week I’m going cold turkey — no chocolate (I’m out of it anyway), no cherries or berries (just trashed what was left) and no sweet potato (a rather large one is sitting on my counter…calling to me). My carb cravings are strong but in a day or so they will start fading.
I’ve created a rather large chore list for myself. It keeps my mind preoccupied and helps with the cravings. This morning I really wanted something sweet. Time for chore #1: go outside and water the plants and newly sprouting grass.
The cravings lingered a bit, so that meant moving on to chore #2: vacuuming!
By the time the cravings are gone, my house will be spotless.
