Cleaning out the closet. If it doesn’t fit me, it’s no longer in my closet. These fine threads are headed for Goodwill, where they will find a new home.

Today I’m in cleaning mode. Cleaning out the closet, refrigerator, kitty litter, car, and anything else I can get my little hands on. I must say the closet excited me the most. Other than that one pair of fat jeans, I’m no longer keeping clothes that don’t fit anymore.

Paring Down All Those Sizes
When I started my journey in 2012, my closet had three types of clothes:

  1. Fits me now.
  2. Almost fits.
  3. Awesome things I used to wear 5 years ago, and if my new diet works, I can fit into again.

To get into the right mindset, I tossed (donated) all the “almost fit” clothes. I kept those awesome old clothes to inspire me to again fit into them. But as the weight came off, I realized I didn’t want those 5-year-old clothes. It was time for something more fashionable.

So my closet changed to:

  1. Fits me now.
  2. Hey, this low carb thing is working and these clothes are way too loose.

After I dropped 75 pounds I tossed out my “fat clothes”… well most of them.  It wasn’t until I was size 20 that I finally let go of my size 28s. But I still held on tight to sizes 22-26. Ugh!!!

This nuttiness — letting go of some fat clothes while keeping others — continued right up until this morning.

Time To See Me For Who I Am
Last month, when I sized myself out of Lane Bryant, I freaked out a bit because I still saw myself as a “fat-girl.” For the last few weeks I started working on my self-image. So I treated myself to a new haircut (a shorter, sassier do), new make-up, and new fun-size clothes! Yep, I lost another pants size.

Yet when getting dressed this morning, I kept pulling out my Lane Bryant size 18s even though I’m fast closing in on an Old Navy size 12.

No wonder I see myself as a fat girl. I’m still dressing the part!

Well I’m done with that. From here on out, my closet is a “fits me” only zone! It’s time to hit the self-image reset and see myself for who I am today — a fabulously healthier and skinnier chick.

  1. I just did a closet cleaning as well. I ended up with many fewer clothes. They all fit (there is one T-shirt that I can wear but will better in about 5 pounds so I kept it). I felt so good doing that.
